The cultural tour allows a visit to some of Durbans most important historical sites, places where South Africa's future changed for the better because of the bravery of a few individuals. The Phoenix Settlement is where Mahatma Gandi developed his philosophy of passive resistance which has been lauded the world over, and his home has been turned into a monument dedicated to lasting peace and justice. We visit the Ohlange Institute, founded by the first president of the African National Congress, Rev. John Langa Dube; this is also the site where Nelson Mandela cast his first historic vote in South Africa's first democratic elections in 1994. |
